I don’t know why, but food always tastes so much better out-of-doors, don’t you think?”
Enid Blyton, Five Go Off in a Caravan

We cook food outdoors, over fire, from the high-welfare farms, kitchen gardens, butchers and other local producers surrounding our campsites. We’re also quite partial to a bit of foraging for wild ingredients in the woods and fields nearby  It’s a simple approach, meaning everything we serve is local, sustainable and seasonal.

Our cooking began as a summer stew and flatbreads on Friday nights for new camping arrivals. Since then, the menu has grown, with a focus on low-waste, local and increasingly plant-based food. Sometimes we  collaborate with some amazing chefs, and host one-off dining events (see our Feasts below) – we’re now  part of the Firepit Crew at the Taste of London food festival. But whatever the occasion, our key ingredients stay the same: relaxed outdoor dining with friends as the sun sets over the hills and the kids play nearby.

Our cooking

Fridays to Sundays, (and Thursdays when we’re open mid-week) we cook up delicious breakfasts and evening meals for our campers.* It’s always over woodfire or charcoal, either on the grill or in the pot. Breakfast tends to be a good old-fashioned bacon & egg sarnie or grilled ciabatta rubbed with garlicky tomato, tea and good coffee.  Dinner might be grilled meat or fish and salads or delicious stews with gremolata and home-made flatbreads – we always provide a vegetarian option.

There are plenty of tables and chairs for socially-distanced communal feasts around the Camp Kitchen, or head back to your own pitch for private dining. Either way, no one needs to be the designated driver home!

We email you a week or so before your stay with the menu and ask for your orders in advance so we know how many we’re cooking for. Prices range from between £9-£16 for adults and around £5-£8 for kids. We’ll always try to do a bit more in case the delicious smells lure some late-comers, but once it’s gone, it’s gone!

Woodfire Feasts

Every so often, when the stars align, we hold a Feast. Like a big, village picnic, everyone sits together at long tables and we serve up a storm. Sometimes it’s us cooking, sometimes guest chefs from top open-fire restaurants like Temper, Scully St James, or Ottolenghi’s Rovi.  Impromptu and fun, they’re a celebration of outdoor dining and local produce; less white tablecloths and matching cutlery, more like the end of every Asterix story; people coming together to share food and fellowship.

Every Feast ticket includes an overnight stay meaning no one has to drive and you can peel off to bed whenever you want, or sit up around a fire, chatting and stargazing. Lovely hot showers, coffee and breakfast the next morning.

We announce Feasts by newsletter and on social media and tickets sell out quickly – click here to sign up to our newsletter and follow us @Woodfire_Camping on Instagram and @WoodfireCamping on facebook

It’s all outdoors so you’ll need to dress for the weather – we go ahead whatever the forecast says!
