Our delicious, hearty food has earned us a reputation as the country’s first ever gastro campsite. Using local, seasonal and top-quality ingredients from the high-welfare farms kitchen gardens, woods and fields surrounding us, we are proud to showcase the fantastic produce that Sussex and the South Downs has to offer. All our food is freshly prepared, cooked over fire and shared at trestle tables overlooking wonderful views.

We began cooking for campers on Friday nights, knowing from experience that travelling from work, putting up a tent (usually with a row) and then having to produce a meal can test the most patient of souls.  We now cook breakfast and supper most days for our campers, and also host ticketed one-off dining events where we collaborate with some amazing chefs – see our Feasts below. But whatever the occasion, our key ingredients stay the same: relaxed outdoor dining with friends as the sun sets over the hills and the kids play nearby (though not too near).

Most days that we are open (and always at weekends), we cook breakfast and supper for our campers. We all share the same dish for evening meals, (though with meat or plant-based/non-dairy options) and can sit together or apart at long trestle tables.

We email you a week or so before your stay with the menu and ask for your orders in advance to avoid waste. Prices range from between £9-£16 per portion and we do half portions at half price. We’ll always try to do a bit more in case the delicious smells lure some late-comers, but once it’s gone, it’s gone!

Woodfire Feasts

Every so often, when the stars align, we hold a Feast. Like a big, village picnic, everyone sits together at long tables and we serve up a storm. Sometimes it’s us cooking, sometimes guest chefs from top open-fire restaurants like Temper, Scully St James, or Ottolenghi’s Rovi.  Impromptu and fun, they’re a celebration of outdoor dining and local produce; less white tablecloths and matching cutlery, more like the end of every Asterix story; people coming together to share food and fellowship.

Every Feast ticket includes an overnight stay meaning no one has to drive and you can peel off to bed whenever you want, or sit up around a fire, chatting and stargazing. Lovely hot showers, coffee and breakfast the next morning.

15th September: A New Moon Woodfire Feast with Chefs Julian Brown and Steve Lamb

Julian is not only a lovely chap but has established a top reputation on the live fire scene, collaborating with some of the best fire chefs around while exploring his fascination with foraging and fermentation. He has fused a strong passion for English, seasonal and ethical produce, cooking over charcoal and wood with Nordic and Asian preservation techniques to create something a little different. We’re also delighted to announce that he will be Woodfire’s Chef-in-Residence at our new campsite opening soon at Firle.

29th September: Full Moon Harvest Feast with Imogen and Ivan from Native, Mayfair

This brilliant duo joined us for a Winter Feast in 2022 and we can’t wait to welcome them back. Championing sustainable cooking, both Imogen and Ivan have a strong passion for foraging and growing their ingredients to get the best out of what nature has to give. Ivan featured in The Great British Menu in 2020 for London and the South East and Imogen was named in Grace Dent’s ’10 People to Watch in the food industry 2017′ whilst also being listed in the Code ‘100 most influential women in hospitality 2021’.
