Elude the threat of karaoke and swap the ‘private’ (ie basement) city dining room with one bored, elusive waiter for the scent of woodsmoke, rolling hills and an afternoon’s immersive dining experience. Glorious views, cosy corners and fires indoor and out allow you to actually connect, unwind and enjoy yourselves.
For just six dates this November and December, Woodfire is treating guests to a seasonal, sustainable menu: a procession of six magnificent courses using wild game and winter produce from the Firle Estate, cooked before you over fire. Drinks are included with your menu and our bar offers warming cocktails, selected wines, and beers from Firle’s Burning Sky brewery a stone’s throw away from our hidden venue.
A seamless hour from London.
Trains run every half hour and take just one hour from Victoria or London Bridge to nearby Lewes station; taxis take a further ten minutes to our location. Electric bus transfer is available from Lewes station for an additional cost. Free parking available onsite.
A seasonal, sustainable menu
Inspired by the traditional British shooting lunch, our two menus (one plant-based) make the most of the wild game, venison and winter garden from the Firle Estate and local area.
Example itinerary:
Leave Victoria/London Bridge around 1.30/2pm (based on train timetables) – you can get a morning’s work in first!
Arrive at Lewes train station for 2.30/3pm – taxi rank available though advance booking recommended – see travel FAQs below for numbers. Electric transport to and from site for larger groups can be arranged. Ten minute drive to venue.
Arrive to fire at dusk. A warming glass of something is put in your hands; nibbles are proffered; the adventurous can arrive early for an autumnal walk or a drink at the iconic English country pub, The Ram, nearby.
Feast: We sit together to Feast at 3.30pm. A magnificent procession of six courses is served, wine is poured (two 125ml paired glasses are included with your meal). Further wine to accompany your meal is served by the demi or full litre carafe and can be ordered in advance.
Bar: open throughout offering drinks from local producers including Burning Sky Brewery, Ridgeview Wine Estate, plus selected wines from small French producers and Woodfire’s warming signature cocktails.
Fire, marshmallows and toasting forks – for those who wish to linger, the bar stays open until 8pm and we have Woodfire marshmallows and fire available.

Our corporate events are available on the following dates:

Travel information
Getting here is easy – we’re 20 mins from both Brighton and Eastbourne and you can leave London at 1.30 and be home in bed by 8.30pm! Lewes station is 1hr 5 mins from Victoria or London Bridge with trains running every half hour. There is a taxi rank outside which is usually full but it may be prudent to book in advance – numbers below. Free parking is located in the village behind The Ram Inn.
For large groups or if enough smaller groups request it, two collections by electric bus can be arranged from Lewes train station to correspond with trains e.g. pick-up at 14:26 and 14:56 and two return options organised for trains running between 6.30-7pm. Please express an interest in this when completing the form.

Wild game is generally acknowledged to be one of the most sustainable forms of meat there is. The birds, though reared for shooting, live a wild and entirely free range life beforehand. Wild venison is supported by the land management programme of the National Park. We support local suppliers and businesses wherever we can.
