GETTING TO WOODFIRE : WESTERLANDS

Woodfire at Westerlands is located on the Westerlands Estate, just south of Petworth, West Sussex. From London, follow the A3 (Junction 10) on M25 south towards Guildford. About 3 miles past Guildford, at the Milford turning, take the A283 direction Petworth. Having driven through Petworth, take the A285 towards Chichester. Pass the Badgers Pub on your left, then Heath End farm shop on your right and take the next right turn towards Graffham. You’ll pass Ridlington Farm on your left. The driveway for Westerlands is a further half mile on the left, just after a bend – you’ll see the sign for Woodfire Camping. Our neighbours live at Westerlands Lodge at the start of this driveway and it is VERY IMPORTANT that you slow right down before turning into the drive! Go slowly up the main drive and you’ll see our car park up a small slope on your right.

Where is the train station? Trains go direct from London Victoria to Pulborough, which is a 15 minutes drive away, or from Waterloo to Haslemere, which is a 20 minute drive away. The train journeys take between an hour to 1 hr, 15mins. Both Pulborough and Haslemere have several taxi firms. South Downs Taxis in Pulborough know where we are: 01798 874111. The 99 bus in W. Sussex goes from Pulborough station to our campsite and all round the place for people who don’t have cars.

By bus – The 99 goes from Pulborough station to our campsite and all round the place for people who don’t have cars, for other areas in West Suusex we recommend using Book-a-Bus which can be booked on the day or up to 24 hours before your journey.

GETTING TO WOODFIRE : CHAPEL FIELD at Firle
Woodfire at Firle is located on the Firle Estate new Lewes, between Brighton and East Sussex. We have TWO campsites here on different locations on the estate so check which one you are visiting!

Please don’t follow Satnav/Waze/Google Maps as these will bring you along private roads on the Firle Estate and some sat navs get confused about our location. To avoid ending up somewhere unexpected, please refer to these directions: Heading east (ie from Brighton/Lewes), continue along the A27 past the signs for Firle Place on your right. Take the second next turning on your right, signposted Woodfire Camping. (Coming west (ie from Eastbourne), you’ll pass the Barley Mow pub and Charleston on your left and then Middle Farm on your right; take the first left-hand turning after that on to Heighton St, signposted Woodfire Camping. Drive slowly past Motorline on your left and continue another few hundred yards until you see the next Woodfire Camping sign.

By train – From London: there is a regular service from London Victoria to Lewes which is seven miles away. At Lewes there is a taxi rank and advance booking is not necessary unless arriving early in the morning or late at night. The closest station is Berwick, which is around four miles away. There are hourly trains from Brighton and Eastbourne to Berwick – note there is no taxi rank at Berwick.

By bus – There are no direct buses to Chapel Field, we recommend using Flexibus. You can book a FlexiBus ride as little as 30 minutes before you want to travel and up to 7 days in advance, bookings can be made using an app and by telephone on 01273 078203.

Carry on along the track, past the drive up to Charleston and follow it around to the left. You should be driving up between two fields, probably with cows and the South Downs (hills) on your right.  Continue as the track bends to the right, and go past a big open barn on your right and Tilton House on your left. The track becomes bumpier here so proceed slowly until you reach a T-junction. Turn right and follow the signs for Woodfire until you reach the opening to our chalk car park on your left.
